PLAYOFFS: SEPTEMBER 3rd 2005 BUTCHERS-ROOSTERS 24-0 (14-0), PORVOO

The Porvoo Butchers are in the playoffs and they face the Helsinki Roosters, the team they lost to three weeks prior. The game started off as a defensive battle with no scoring taking place in the first quarter. But the Butchers started putting it together and started driving the ball on the ground.  The offensive line started to dominate the defence of the Roosters and runningback Nathan Connor had huge holes to run through. And when the Butchers started to run they started to score. Connor scored three straight touchdowns, two in the second quarter and one more in the fourth. Sami Mikkonen added a field goal late in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring. The Butchers won 24-0. The offence played well rushing the ball as well as passing the ball when it called for it. The defence of the Butchers played an outstanding game, controling the line of scrimmage, stopping the run and breaking up almost every pass. Nathan Connor had a huge game, his best of the season, rushing the ball 37 times for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Willie had a big day on defence knocking down three passes, one of them being a sure touchdown. The Butchers are heading to the final next weekend at Finnair stadium in Helsinki against the Crocodiles, it should be a big game and a lot of fun to watch.

MAPLEBOWL XXVI:
SEPTEMBER 10th 2005 CROCODILES-BUTCHERS 7-17 (7-7), FINNAIR STADIUM HELSINKI

The Final week of the season is upon us and the league best to teams were ready to battle it out for the Maple bowl Championship, Crocodiles against the Butchers. The stands were full and the fans were loud. The game started very much like the first game these two teams played. The Crocodiles jumped to an early lead with a first quarter touchdown. A couple series later the Butchers answered back with a deep pass from Petrus Penkki to Ville Kurvinen. Then the defensive battle began. Both defences did a very good job in containing the other teams offences. The score at half time was 7-7, and it remained that way till late in the fourth quarter. Late in the fourth Petrus orcestrated a very good drive starting when he broke two tackles and throwing a great deep pass to Tuomas Kivisaari down the left sideline. The drive ended with a 13 yard touchdown run by runningback Nathan Connor, with 2 minutes remaining in the game. The defence then created a turnover on the Crocodiles next possesion and the Butchers added a field goal and won the game 17-7. The Butchers ended the season exactly the way they wanted to and said they would, with a Maple Bowl championship. Nathan Connor was named finals MVP, but the real story of the game was the solid play of the defence. Thanks go out to all the fans of the Butchers, as well as the sponsors, without you none of this would have been possible.
